Home Run

Ahh, so cluttered – my thoughts that is. I forgot my notebook with everything I wanted to write In it. So hopefully, I can remember all of my thoughts. I’m going in order of how it’s quickly scribbled down on my scratch paper here, not in order of importance or chronologically.

On Thursday President O’Bryant and his lovely wife came to visit our apartment! We had a really great deep cleaning, and they thought our apt was adorable (because it is, especially when it’s clean). We made them dinner and had our interviews. I really like how President O’Bryant is doing things. It’s different from President Sederholm, but it’s really good. He’s having us focus more on becoming better missionaries and people than doing better missionary work. We’re also not doing leadership positions like a hierarchy anymore, but anyone can be anything (kind of scary, but exciting). For example, you could only be a zone leader if you’d been a district leader, but now anyone could jump to zone leader or assistant or district leader or trainer. The thing is that he wouldn’t stick someone who’s not very responsible as an assistant or a zone leader, but now it could be any responsible, worthy elder that can hold that position.

On Tuesday we went with Tina out to Korsør to stop by this cute little Italain man we’d met out there last week. We brought Tina because the man didn’t speak any English or Danish, only Italian, and fun fact about Tina, her first language was Italain. So we dropped by and he was so very happy to see us! And so surprised that we’d brought someone who spoke Italian! His only family is his daughter-in-law and his granddaughter. We asked him if he liked to read and gave him an Italian Book of Mormon! He told us we were like his daughters! SO CUTE! Haha, he told us that if we come back we should make sure to bring Tina because otherwise we’d just be smiling and laughing and making hand gestures.

We had zone training in Roskilde on Wednesday! It was so great! We aren’t calling anything meetings anymore, they’re now councils, so everyone can be a part of it. It was a lot of crazy things. We’re focusing on contacting and getting peeps into that nadvermøde. Sister Floyd and I gave a short presentation on how we’ve changed ourselves to be better instruments in God’s hands. It was great! We were grateful for that opportunity.

Okay. Big stuff. As in the stuff I’ve been wanting to tell you about. So Thursday night we were planning and we set some goals for the next day in an area we’d planned to go knocking. Our goals were to get 2 new investigators and 3 new potentials. The next day, before we set out, we prayed that we could reach those goals. We went to the area with a member and started knocking. It was so easy to ask if we could get their number or pray with them. Not so easy to get a return appt, but acheivable. At the end of our planned time we looked at our numbers so astounded! We had just gotten 3 new investigators and 4 new potentials! It was all because we didn’t just set goals and expect God to bless us with bounteous blessings; we really worked for it. (It was also in part because we had our lovely Natasha along.) The next day we came back to that same area and found 2 more investigators! Just reaping that harvest! So many miracles! Also we got 22 lessons this past week! HOW DID THAT EVEN HAPPEN??! Just so y’all know, in Denmark that’s crazy. I think the most our district has gotten, cumulatively, is 35 lessons in a week. Last night after we gave our numbers to the district leader, we get a call from Elder Hawkes and Elder Lester, screaming in my ear that Sister Floyd and I were leading the zone! It was actually kind of embarrassing because Elder Hawkes sounded like a 13 year old girl at a Justin Bieber concert. And all that has been making us really uncomfortable. We don’t know how to take this.

Okay. On to randomness.

We got our nails done today because we helped out our friend Mathilde the other day, so she did our nails for free! I luff them.

One of our new investigators believes in Thor and Odin and sacrifices animals to them… AWESOME! I kind of don’t want to convert him because that’s just so awesome, not the sacrifices, but I’VE NEVER MET ANYONE THAT ACTUALLY BELIEVES IN THAT STUFF BEFORE! #Scandanavia #Whoisthisguy?

So we were at Anny and Leo’s (our weekly Thursday eating appt) and their daughter Sara was over with her family. We like to speak English with Sara, so we were carrying on and Leo, who can’t speak any English, just says, “Jeg vil også gerne grine med…” (“I will also like to laugh along…”) it was so cute and so sad! We quickly switched to Danish. Leo actually has a funny story of when he and Anny were in Utah for General Conference and he needed to find the bathroom. He kept saying “Toilette, toilette” And apparently no one understood him so he finally said “Ladies and gentleman” and someone was like “Oh! The restroom!” He was so flustered. haha I love him. He’s like a teddy bear. Sara was telling us about her daughter playing with My Little Ponies and Leo just says, super cute, “My Little Pony”.

Have a wonderful week! I love you all! I really hope I haven’t forgotten anything.

Quotes/Funny Stories:
Søs Fl: “Santa doesn’t snow. He doesn’t snow”

I contacted this old lady who wasn’t very interested and I accidentally said “You have en fortsæt god dag!” and then walked away awkwardly

We were praying on our way out the door and the mailman shoved mail through the slot in the middle of my prayer and I almost peed my pants. Scared me to death!

When President was visiting our apt he asked if he could use the bathroom. We said of course but then I said “You have to be careful though. The toilet seat comes off. It’s name is actually Temptation because you should try not to fall into it” He looks at me weird and says “Oh, I was just going to wash my hands…” And then I realized that he’s a guy and might not even be sitting on the toilet anyway. #SuperAwks

Søs Thompson: “Hey Guys! Sister Floyd has a ballad!”
Someone in the background: “Oh no…”

“No one wants to lose their testimony OR their goldfish”

Gel, You Are Bob Coax Amazing! (What does that even mean?)

Goddag Goddag. This week wasn’t the most exciting thing in the world, but we always manage to have a good time, whether it’s eventful or not. We actually went on splits this week with Søster Ripa and Søster Van Orden! We were going to have it here in Slagelse; we had a plan set up with almost appointments and such, but they called and told us that we actually need to have splits there in Gladsaxe because they’re needed. So we did. I was with Sister Ripa and Sister Floyd was with Sister Van Orden. It was so very fun because Søs Floyd and Søs Van Orden were MTC comps and I haven’t been on splits with Sister Ripa since my first splits which was when I was about a month old.

The reason the Sister Training Leaders had to stay in Gladsaxe was because they/we had to help out with what is called ‘DaneTræf’ – kind of like EFY for the whole country of Denmark (all the LDS youth). We were there with the other elders (love the elders in our mission) and we taught the kids how to respond to questions their friends might have about the church! It was so awesome! And I got to see a bunch of kids from our ward here in Slagelse and from Roskilde!

The other thing about splits was Sister Ripa and I rode the bikes while the other sisters took buses and walked. But Sister Van Orden’s bike was still up in Horsens so she’s been riding this bike, it’s called “The Terminator” It’s a man’s bike and it’s a racing bike so the seat is really skinny and uncomfortable, and I made the mistake of wearing a pencil skirt so I had to take a BIG step over the middle bar (long legs) and the handlebars were lower than the seat so my butt was up in the air. It was a funny sight, let me tell you. Me and The Terminator just started to get along when I left. I love Sister Ripa though. She’s so great!

On Saturday, we had a ward BBQ to celebrate the end of our ward 40 day fast! It was so fun! I hadn’t been to a ward BBQ in so long! And we had it out in the parking lot! So much fun. My hair was braided by a small child (any excuse to get my hair played with), another small child totally made saft with warm water.

Søs Floyd: “DRINK! MY! HOT! KOOL-AID!”
Me: “I MADE THIS FOR YOU!”

And I got some potato Salad on the table and Stefan put his elbow in it. It was absolutely hilarious and everyone was like “Søster! What have you done?” I was just like “It wasn’t me! It wasn’t me!” But it was me, hehe.

I actually was able to fast this past week. I started it on the way home from splits and ended it at Anny and Loe’s house for dinner 🙂 Best place to end. Such good food. But this fast was so awesome for me because I wasn’t hungry all day and I really focused on what I was fasting for throughout the day! So great! The church is true.

I gave a 15 min talk in sacrament meeting yesterday! I was freaking out so much! It’s hard enough for me to give talks in English, let alone Danish. The best thing was that the talk was only supposed to be 10 mins. 🙂 The whole day on Sunday was just great. I gave a talk, we taught guesteklass on the sabbath day (perfect topic, don’t you think?), and the Relief Society lesson was so great! We split off into old ladies and us younger ladies and our lesson was awesome! It was about marriage (don’t you worry) but we talked about how we can make family life in general work and maybe even with our companionship. It was so good! I also loved it because it felt like I was back in my singles ward. It was so entertaining and personal!

Another thing I wanted to talk about is a miracle. So we used a bunch of MSF at the beginning of the month and have some left, but maybe not enough to make it through the rest of the month. So we’ve been eating the food we already have and making that do. Well, God has blessed us with so much food. We have an eating appt every day this week. On Saturday, I complimented the guy who grilled all of our meat, and he gave us a bunch to take home. And at church yesterday, one guy gave us a box of muffins and another gave us some more meat! So many blessings! I’m so very grateful to Heavenly Father.

Have a wonderful week everyone!

SO. Lots of things. As usual.
We had a rocking 4th of July! I got a red white and blue sweater from H&M (best comp ever bought it for me. Love you babe.), and we had a BBQ at a member’s house after we did a bunch of service for them! We had red white and blue ice cream, a BBQ’d flæskesteg, and we sang them the star spangled banner with harmonies. ‘Cause that’s how we roll. We also made potato salad and pico de gallo 🙂 Yup yup. God bless America.

It has gotten so dang hot. Like it went from 65 degrees outside to 82 in one day. Hello July and hello summer. I have unfortunately discovered that I really only have black skirts. I was dying the other day when I made the mistake of wearing all black. But, with sunshine comes good things, such as: tanness! I’ve gotten tan for the first time really in my life! And because I’ve gotten tan and my hair has gotten blonder, I haven’t been wearing a lot of makeup and I still look crazy adorable! (If I do say so myself 😉 )

The Sederholms are gone. It was really emotional. We love them so much.
On Thursday we had a meeting in Roskilde to meet our new president and his wife! Their names are Præsident and Søster O’Bryant! And they are so nice! They’re a lot different than the Sederholms, but I wouldn’t expect them to be the same.

Søs Floyd and I had an experience this past week where we were very nicely chastised for something and we took it to heart and decided to change. We were only being good missionaries and not the best missionaries we could’ve been. So we made some goals, one of which was to get better at contacting and talking to people, a skill which I’ve really been working on my entire life. I’m the kind of person who slowly opens up to people. Going up to someone and starting a conversation is something my mom is VERY good at, but I didn’t pick up on that gene, so it’s been really hard for me. BUT I read in chapter 6 of PMG and there was a paragraph that said, “Christlike attributes are gifts from God. They come as you use your Agency righteously. Ask your Heavenly Father to bless you with these attributes; you cannot develop them without His help. With a desire to please God, recognize your weaknesses and be willing and anxious to improve.” I read this and realized that ya, thinking about going up to someone and talking about the gospel sounds so very scary when I’m all alone (not including Søs Floyd) but like just me by myself, but I never really thought that in order to gain the strength and courage I need, I CANNOT do it by myself, I have to have Heavenly Father’s help. So on Friday, right before we left the apt, we said a prayer and I asked God to bless us and help us and give us the strength we lack so that our weaknesses can be made strong. We went out and contacted SO many people! It came so naturally! And we also learned that we need to, and can work together as a companionship to talk to people. I’m not alone and I definitely believe in angels. My favorite thing is the feeling we get at the end of the day, a feeling of satisfaction knowing you’ve done your best that day. We had a few of those this week and I’d like to keep ’em coming 🙂

I don’t feel like I’m permanently changed, it’s something I’ve got to keep working on every day, but I am so grateful for the chances I’ve had this past week to see that I CAN do it!

“Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever.” Alma 26:12

Ok, a few random things:
Do you remember that man I told you about with the incredible hair that we saw at the library? Well, we contacted him this week and found out that his name is Razir and we aren’t the first missionaries who’ve talked with him. We got a selfie! I’d been trying to get a creeper pic, just of his hair, but it hadn’t been working (I’m a weenie), but now I have a freaking selfie. Mission Accomplished.

We also contacted another man the other day, his name is Ramazan and he’s muslim, and right now the muslims have this month long fast where they only eat between 10 pm and 3 am, but this guy was totally eating a kebab. When we asked him about it, he shushed the sky and laughed. Rebellious man.
There was a color run here in Slagelse last week! And they ran right past our apartment! It was so awesome! We were just leaning out the window watching them all run by and this guy totally blew me a kiss! Haha, I guess that’s as good as I’m gonna get for the next year 😉

Well, it’s been a great week. I’m excited for this next one!
Ha’ det godt!

Quotes:
Æ Hawkes: “There’s a trial in my brownie!”

Me: “You know when you leave chicken for a while and it gets that stuff on it? I thought that’s what jello was, just strawberry flavored.”

Søs Fl: “That poor man. He must be so uncomfortable with whatever is stuck up his butt.”

Søs Fl: “That poor girl. Someone stole her pants.”

Me: “This picture needs to be my new cover picture. You look good, and I look good, and that fox just looks so foxy!”

So since you didn’t get any pictures last week (You wouldn’t be getting any this week either but Elder Hawkes is really nice and letting me borrow his card reader.), you get double pictures today! Woo partay.
